The Golf Swing Sequence Needed For Longer Drives

Golf Swing

There’s one key move in your golf swing that will help you to hit longer, more powerful drives.

And that key move is to move your lower body towards the target WHILE you are completing your backswing.   So in essence your body is moving in two different directions at once.

You may think that is almost impossible but it’s actually a very natural movement.  For example, when people throw a ball as far and fast as possible their throwing arm and hand is going back while the lower body is moving towards the target.  Look at baseball pitchers for example.

So to help you feel this move in your golf swing you need to understand something important which is this.  Just before you reach the top of your golf swing you should be focused on moving your weight to your left foot and then moving your left knee towards the target (or the right foot and right knee for lefties).  To help you do this here is a…

Golf Swing Sequencing Drill

1st. Swing back to a ¾ backswing position and then stop and hold that position.

2nd. Now move your front foot back so it’s together with your back foot.

3rd. Start your backswing again and complete it.  Then as you’re completing your backswing move your front foot back to where it was at setup and this will help you to transition correctly from your backswing to your downswing with your body going in two different directions at once.

This is a great golf drill that will help you to learn and ingrain the movement of transitioning correctly into your downswing, and the correct transition will help build power and momentum in your golf swing.  Naturally this will lead to longer golf drives and more fun on the golf course because of your improved golf swing sequencing.
